Comment: I tried to get through this slim novel, but it was like reading a story that Basil Rathbone rejected for a movie script. Watson is a bumbler and the Irregulars are treated with more respect. No clues given along the way to aid the reader-we are just barely along for the duration.

Comment: This book was a thoroughly enjoyable read! Sherlock Holmes and the ever faithful Dr. Watson have returned in fine style. The reader is immersed from the beginning with an assassination attempt on the life of Holmes through the twists and turns in the plots and subplots, including the theft of a world famous diamond, to the gratifying conclusion. The author obviously spent considerable time doing painstaking research for historical facts, language and location. It would be gratifying to see more adventures of the Great Detective from this writer who has captured the essence of Holmes and Watson so well!
